Psychology behind procrastination

Psychology behind procrastination

Procrastinating is simply the act of putting something off for a later time. Ironically, time is always going against people and it may or may not be there when we need it.

To procrastinate means to be alive. Everyone procrastinates. The things we choose to procrastinate on makes all the difference in our lives.

When is it good to procrastinate? It is good to procrastinate on things that does NOT move you in the direction of achieving your goals. For example, people should choose to put off hours of watching television and playing video games if they want to be successful in school.

We can do almost anything we want to do in life, but we can’t do everything. There is always a trade-off with every decision.

Why do people procrastinate when there are more important things they should be doing? Most people have a tendency of being too liberal with their time and selfish with materialistic things. Ironically, most people should be selfish with their time and liberal with materialistic things. Why? You can always have more things but you can never have more time. Thus, how you prioritize your time matters.

Why do most people waste a lot of time having fun and not working? There are two reasons why most people do this. Most people underestimate the value of working and overestimate the value of fun.

When should people procrastinate on work? People should procrastinate on work when they believe that they have few years left. Working is an investment. If people believe that they will not be around long enough to see the return on their investment, they should work less and have fun more. This is a fuzzy decision to make because no one knows the future for sure.

In conclusion, procrastination is the opposite of an investment. Whatever you choose to invest in, you are choosing to procrastinate the alternative. Thus, how we procrastinate will make all the difference in our lives.
