Psychology Behind the purpose of life

Psychology behind the purpose of life

The purpose of life differs for almost everyone, but in general, there is a purpose of life. Contrary to nihilistic beliefs, the purpose of life is to get stuff done.

To get stuff done means to be productive and prolific. People exist to produce stuff on the planet. The less we produce, the harder it is to find fulfilment in life. This is true because we subconsciously feel guilty about not producing much. If we are not producing much, then we are consuming. So to not be a producer is to be a consumer. And consuming too much is bad for us.

Producing too much can also be bad for people as well, but most people don’t ever come close to producing too much. For example, most people watch 3 or 4 hours of Television everyday and use social media for at least 2 hours. This time is used by people to consume content other people produced. We have a major imbalance of producers vs consumers. One third of all people are producers and the rest are consumers.

Going deeper into getting things done is how we get things done. People can either live life to gather knowledge to inform people, live experiences to entertain people, or a mixture of both. We either pass off entertainment or we pass of information. For example, music artists pass off entertainment. That is their purpose in life: to produce as much quality music as possible. Scientists pass off information. Their purpose in life is to learn as much as possible and give their knowledge away. The individuals who live their lives to pass of both entertainment and information (infotainment) are usually the people who are believed to have a well lived life.

For most people, life ends when our hearts stops beating. So as long as our heart is beating, we should be doing something. Either we actively produce or we actively consume, but we shouldn’t be passively doing anything. Life is active and is all about activity. This is a crucial point because so many people are wishing for a life in which they do less activity. To want to do less activity is to want to not live because life is about getting things done.

So what exactly should some people do? The answer to this depends on the individual. We are all born with certain strengths and certain weaknesses. Too many people spend time trying to bring up a weakness when they need to focus more on sharing the quality of their strengths. Society has taught people to not be weak at anything and that weaknesses are bad. But in reality, everyone have weaknesses; that is normal. People should let their weakness be a weakness and let a strength be a strength. We all should spend more time focused on what we can do and not so much on what we can’t do.
