Psychology behind identity
shift
To achieve anything worthwhile in
life, we must go through an identity shift. This is not just about making a
decision but it is about making a decision to change the decisions you make
because you will change.
We are who we are right now because of
the way think. In particularly, we are who we are right now because of the way
we thought about the decisions we’ve made in the past. This thought process
will affect our ability to make future decisions. And how we make those future
decisions will be the result of our identity.
An identity shift is choosing to
change your current identity because you want to become a new person and
experience a new life.
How can someone change their identity?
To change your identity, you have to endure the changing process. This process
will test an individual’s willpower. When the pain of staying the same is
greater than the pain to change, this process is easier. For most people this
is not the case because their decision to shift their identity is arbitrary.
Most people will need to feel an
emotional reason for the need to be different or they will never become
different. People follow their own emotions. If people’s emotions remain the
same, they will remain the same.
How long does an identity shift take?
The duration can range from several weeks to several years contingent upon
one’s ability to discover their underlying emotional reason for their need to
be different.
Why some people fail to make an
identity shift? Too many people are delusional when they think about changing.
Most people think about everything they have to gain by becoming a different
(and hopefully better) person and fail to remember that everything comes at a
price. Every decision people make comes with trade-offs. By choosing to make
one decision, you are choosing to not make another decision. In conclusion, we
can’t have everything we want in life but we can have almost anything we want
as long as we are willing to become the right person.
