Psychology behind music addiction
Music
is a drug that most young adults and teenagers are addicted to. It is a drug
because of the amount of influence it has on the decision making process of
most young people.
Part
of being young is being susceptible to many things. This susceptibility is due
to a lack of immune system. There are many different types of immune systems.
The
music industry thrives because it attacks susceptible vibrant young people’s
immune system. Mature adults typically don’t attend concerts because they are
not addicted. If mature adults do attend a concert, it comes from a position of
choice and not lack of willpower.
The
clothes most young people wear is greatly influenced by music artists. Their
value system have been socially conditioned to conform to the values of their
favorites artists.
Why
are most young people influenced by music so easily? The answer is insecurity.
Most young people don’t know who they are so they turn to music for their
definition or false security.
Music
artists are secure individuals and they draw in the insecure youth and
influence them. Music artists tell their fans how to act, think, dress,
respond, and what to believe in.
People
tend to outgrow music when they become older than most music artists. As a
result of becoming older, people tend to feel that they have more wisdom and
experience than some music artist that is younger. Thus, a younger music artist
can’t influence mature adults as easily when it comes to topics such as life,
adversity, love, and success.
Most
people biasedly want to follow older individuals who possess more security (or
confidence) than them. This is why most people that attend religious services
are attracted to old preachers and ministers.
People
have a selfish desire to move in the direction of security. And because most
music artists brag about how secure they are and constantly remind their fans
about it, insecure young people become addicted. Ironically, young people
aren’t addicted to the artist but they are addicted to the lifestyle and the
artist’s security. And this addiction leads to the addiction to music.
